Leah Jones. In the few short years that Leah has been creating textile art she has achieved some amazing things. She has created hundreds of garments for the marketplace which includes two of the best known women's dress shops in Melbourne, had several large fashion parades, won several major awards at the Sheep and Wool Show and taken out the Acquisition Award at Australia's own Wearable Arts Awards. She has been part of several exhibitions, had her own solo exhibition, made the Textile Fibre Forum magazine twice and taught many students the gentle art of feltmaking. Leah sees herself as a healer and her time spent working with textiles supports that belief. She is aware that you can't heal anyone unless you heal yourself so each creation has a piece of her healing in it and each piece will attract the person who needs to heal themselves in that area.

Her individualistic clothing and wearable art pieces seem to sit on her clothing racks until they make their way to the person who needs them the most. The piece then takes on the memory of the person who wears it and offers them the opportunity of the healing experience they might require. She has set up her own network newsletter called Totally Tactile and facilitates many art activities in her local area for textiles lovers from around the state. She also teaches and tutors locally and interstate. Leah works full time at her art creating wearables that stretch the boundaries of textile techniques. She sees felt meterage as her canvas and is most inspired when challenged to do the unusual drawing on a variety of techniques like felting, dyeing, shibori, hand and machine embroidery. She is passionate about fabrics and loves the challenge of blending textiles from other cultures with her own mix of materials. She takes her inspiration from nature and her relaxing environment and believes very much in stretching her boundaries.

Leah feels that as we are only limited by our imagination, we must take every opportunity to expand our imagination and has attended many classes with international and national tutors in a range of fields wherever and whenever something different is offered. She feels she is very fortunate to be able to do that which she loves the most - play with colour and texture. She lives in country Victoria and works full time from her studio, in an old miners cottage which she shares with her partner Struan and long time mate Bo.
